So this is your first time to get a full body massage? Congratulations on taking a first step towards improving your physical, emotional, and spiritual health! In the following information, I will try to let you know what will happen in your first session.
Assessing your needs
A member of our trained staff will greet you. After filling out the state-required forms with your information, you will be taken to a clean, warm, and friendly massage room. You may be a little nervous at first but after the therapist asks a few questions to get to know you and what your needs are, this will begin to dissipate. Some people come in for very specific, long-term problems and others come in strictly for relaxation. The staff at New Life Massage is capable of handling both types of massage and is glad to do so.
After the interview, the therapist will give you privacy to undress to your level of comfort. The level of disrobing varies from person to person according to their comfort level but remember a clean sheet will always cover you. You get on the table and the therapist re-enters the room and makes any adjustments necessary to make you more comfortable.
It is very important to remember that you are in charge at all times and if you are not getting what you want, tell the therapist so they can adapt to what makes you at ease. Our therapists understand the best expert on your body is you. They genuinely want you to be happy with your massage so they readily accept input.
The massage starts as your therapist uses oils or creams for lubrication and their strong, warm, caring hands to soothe the aches, pains, and stresses out of your body. Somehow, they know exactly where to go and what is needed. It is acceptable to fade off to never-never land and totally relax or you may want to stay awake to not miss a moment of this wonderful experience. Talking is acceptable if you want, or you may ask the therapist to stay totally quiet while you go away. When the session is over, the therapist will quietly leave and allow you to dress and come back to the real world.
After you have had the issues of your body addressed, and you have reluctantly gotten up and dressed, your therapist will discuss additional care for after the massage.
Remember that your muscles have memory and what you do most with them is what they remember. So if there is chronic stress and tension, that will be what they remember best and if it is regular relaxation then that is what they remember. Massage is an excellent tool to re-educate your muscles to promote a relaxation response.
Things You Should Do
- It is important to drink lots of water. Massage stimulates the lymphatic system which in turn helps pull toxins from the body. These toxins need to be flushed from the system and water is the best way to do that.
- Many clients take a nice bath and put two cups of white or apple cider vinegar in their bath water and soak while drinking a good amount of water. This helps prevent any stiffness or soreness, especially if you have had a particularly deep-tissue massage.
- Relax and enjoy and let your body re-learn it’s relaxation state.
- When going to bed, put yourself in a good sleeping position as you will likely sleep very deeply.
- If anything is concerning you or you have questions, be sure to email or call!
Things You Should NOT Do
- Do not drink alcohol. This removes water from the system and can actually intensify the effects of the alcohol.
- Do not plan heavy-duty activities as you will feel great and you will tend to overdo it.
- Do not nap on the couch as you will likely sleep much longer than anticipated and can create soreness from the uncomfortable position.
Many of us have schedules that are so hectic, we do not seem to find the time to unwind and deal with mental stress and physical aches and pains. It doesn’t have to be that way. Chair massage is a convenient solution.
WHAT IS A CHAIR MASSAGE?
The chair massage is done in a specially designed chair that supports all areas of your body. This allows you to relax much more than sitting in an office chair. It positions your body to be conveniently worked on by a well-trained therapist. This position allows intensive work in specific areas or relaxation techniques in a more general approach. Not only will you receive a massage but you will get education on your body and what you may be doing to harm it.
The massage is done fully clothed and lasts 10 minutes or more.
Chair Massage is offered by New Life Massage for our corporate clients at their locations on an every-other-week basis. We provide 10-minute massages for $10 per session. Sessions are fantastic for headaches, migraines, carpal-tunnel-like symptoms, lower back pain and many other issues. It is also great for a stress-busting, relaxing, rejuvenating break.
Massages are done in a private, relaxing room. You can schedule online. If you have any questions, let us know or stop by when the therapist is on-site.
